I
am painting the essence of the spirit of the land. It
is this wildness that I love and connect to in Big Sur
Branham
(Brandy) Rendlen was born in Missouri and grew up in an agricultural
community on the Mississippi River. A
deep connection to the land is a thread running through her life. She
earned a BFA in Printmaking and Painting and an MFA in Printmaking from
the University of Kansas. Her
work has been exhibited locally, regionally, and internationally.
In addition to oil painting, she practices printmaking, drawing and
bookmaking. She also enjoys
teaching both adults and children.
She
moved to Big Sur in 1985 after falling in love with the visual beauty and
lifestyle of the central coast. Not
owning a printing press, she began painting again.
Content has always been the main focus of her work and, as time has
passed, the essence or spirit of Big Sur has become that content,
expressed through the landscape.
Branham
has always told stories with her artwork, and her landscape work is the
story of her ongoing and deepening relationship with nature:
Branham
lives in Big Sur with her husband, John McLellan.
Their home is about 3,000 feet above sea level
